Schlickmann Construction's in-house carpentry team handles everything from custom built-ins to historic millwork restoration. We craft pieces in our shop and install them with the precision of a furniture-grade finish.

Custom carpentry is where construction becomes craftsmanship. From a single bookcase to a built-in entertainment wall, from crown molding to a complete trim package, Schlickmann's finish carpenters work in shops and on-site across Greater Boston to deliver millwork that looks original to your home.

Common projects: built-in bookcases, window seats, mudroom benches, breakfast banquettes, crown molding, wainscoting, beadboard, custom doors, stair components, paneled walls, and built-in entertainment centers. We work in paint-grade poplar, stain-grade oak/maple/cherry/walnut, and MDF where appropriate. Joinery is dado, mortise-and-tenon, and biscuit/Domino as the application demands.

Most carpentry projects don't require permits, which means we can typically schedule within 2-3 weeks of contract signing. Smaller scopes (a single built-in, a trim package on a single room) often complete in under 7 days on-site. Larger projects (full first-floor trim, panel-grade wainscoted dining room) run 2-4 weeks.

Common Questions About Carpentry

Yes. We've restored and reproduced 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s trim profiles in homes across Concord, Lexington, Andover, and Boston's western suburbs. We can match an existing profile from a single sample piece.

Absolutely. Library walls, fireplace flanking units, and full-height built-ins are some of our most-requested projects. Pricing typically runs $4,000–$15,000 per full wall depending on door/drawer detail and finish.

Both. Painted millwork is pre-primed in the shop, installed, then final-coated on-site for clean joints. Stained work is fully finished in the shop where dust control is better, then installed and touch-up finished.

Simple shelving units: 2–3 weeks from order. Detailed built-ins with doors and drawers: 4–6 weeks. Coordination with paint cure time is the biggest variable.
